President-elect Biden will set his aim on destroying one of Republican’s largest lobbyist organizations, the National Rifle Association.
Biden’s Twitter account sent this out Friday:
.@GabbyGiffords — Your perseverance and immeasurable courage continue to inspire me and millions of others. I pledge to continue to work with you — and with survivors, families, and advocates across the country — to defeat the NRA and end our epidemic of gun violence. https://t.co/zN5J5YjXUM
— Joe Biden (@JoeBiden) January 8, 2021
The reply was to former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, a Democrat from Arizona who was a victim of a mass shooting, who sent out the tweet below which got Biden’s attention.
Ten years ago, my life and my community changed forever. I was shot in the head, six people were killed, 12 others injured. But the attack did not break me—or the people I represented in Congress. We came together, turned pain into purpose, and found hope in each other.

Giffords has been a top supporter of the restriction of gun rights since she was a victim of gun violence. Her husband Senator Mark Kelly, D-Ariz., is a former astronaut and claimed his Senate seat in this November’s election.
Meanwhile, the NRA has prepared for an “onslaught” from Biden, saying on its website:
“Here we go again. Now once more we must fight to protect the Second Amendment. This will be printed before the litigation is done, so things could change, but currently, it seems as though Joe Biden will be the next president of the United States. And once he is in office, he will start a coordinated attack on the gun rights of Americans. We must be ready to fight this incoming onslaught.”
