Virginia is still in a big mess because Democrats are introducing legislation for more gun control.
Americans around the country celebrated the successful, peaceful demonstration of Second Amendment patriots this week.
Over twenty thousand residents gathered to tell Virginia to get their hands off of their guns.
Smart lawmakers probably would have taken a hint from these Virginians, but Virginia Democrats didn’t learn their lesson.
In fact, things are getting even worse it seems.
Not only are they trying to get rid of Virginia resident’s gun rights, but they are now going after what some would consider free speech.
From Big League Politics:
House Bill 1627 was introduced by Delegate Jeffrey M. Bourne last week. The legislation “provides that certain crimes relating to threats and harassment may be prosecuted in the City of Richmond if the victim is the Governor, Governor-elect, Lieutenant Governor, Lieutenant Governor-elect, Attorney General, or Attorney General-elect, a member or employee of the General Assembly, a justice of the Supreme Court of Virginia, or a judge of the Court of Appeals of Virginia.”
Take a look at the phrasing of that bill very carefully.
It says that if the threat or harassment is against one of the people listed (State officials), then it will be prosecuted in the City of Richmond.
Why is it so important where in the state the crimes are prosecuted?
Are there certain judges in Richmond that will decide the case a certain way?
I don’t know for sure why they want to specify where they get to prosecute, but it smells VERY fishy to me.
This law, like so many others, could be twisted to endanger a Virginia resident’s freedom of speech.
We have free speech for a reason. It’s so American citizens can call out our leaders when they disagree.
Governor, you might lose a chunk of your state to West Virginia if you pass your gun laws.
