Republican Sen. Mitt Romney shocked voters recently when he said he’d vote for a Democrat for president. He apparently rejected all Republicans running for the office.
Many have long accused Romney of being a “Republican in name only.” And his comments appeared to confirm that.
Now, he is discussing who he might actually vote for. But instead of President Biden, he might go for this non-Republican.

Host Kristen Welker of NBC News’s Meet the Press prompted the retiring senator, whose dislike of former President Donald Trump is well-known, as to whether he might vote for Biden in the election. In response, Romney claimed, “The Joe I would like to vote for is Joe Manchin.”
The Utah senator did tell Welker that he wished Manchin would be the Democratic nominee rather than Biden, who is the front-runner for the spot. [Source: Washington Examiner]
Romney, who has been called a “secret Democrat” by Donald Trump, revealed he would vote for Joe Manchin. The senator admitted he did not know if the Democrat would run. But Manchin has been hinting strongly in recent days that he is mulling a campaign.
Manchin announced recently that he was not running for re-election in the deep-red state of West Virginia. Instead, he said he was going to travel across America to “mobilize the middle.” It is unclear what that means, but it could result in him launching a third-party campaign.
Romney suggested he’d support Manchin, despite the fact he is a moderate Democrat. Sen. Romney landed in hot water in 2020-2021, when he sided with Democrat to vote against Donald Trump in their second impeachment trial.
The Utah Republican was censured by his party back home. He recently announce he would not run for a second term in the Senate—leaving the seat open for 2024.
Several third-party candidates pose to shake up the 2024 Election. Cornell West, a progressive civil rights figure, might steal progressive votes away from Joe Biden. Former Democrat, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., appears to be gaining support among moderate voters.
Should Manchin enter the race as well, he could steal votes from both Joe Biden and Donald Trump. But he has yet to announce a campaign, while time is running out.
