Democrat Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is known for her support for far-left, socialist government programs. She is strongly in support of Biden’s border policy. She has frequently demanded higher taxes on the rich, to cover expenses for bloated, government entitlement programs.
And, of course, she was one of many leftists who demanded that the Biden administration forgive student loans.
Biden’s student loan forgiveness scheme would have cost taxpayers at least $300 billion. But the Supreme Court struck down the program, with a stern rebuke to the administration. That hasn’t stopped Democrats like AOC from lobbying for the government to cancel these loans. But it seems AOC wasn’t being as generous as some people thought.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez held up to $50,000 in student loan debt while being one of the biggest proponents of its cancellation, according to filings reviewed by Fox News Digital.
The New York lawmaker’s recently released financial disclosure shows she maintained between $15,001 and $50,000 in student loan debt in 2022. During this time, the progressive champion, who collects a $174,000 salary as a U.S. House of Representatives member, consistently advocated for actions that would also directly benefit herself. Dang. AOC was championing Biden’s attempts at canceling student loan debt in May of 2022. Biden announced his plans to do just that later that year. And it just so happens, we are now learning, that AOC owed up to $50,000 in student loans at the time.
AOC is in her thirties, meaning she has been sitting on these loans for about a decade or longer. Despite earning $174,000 a year as a congresswoman, she was calling on the federal government to simply erase her debt.
There are many Americans earning a fraction of what AOC does, who have faithfully paid off their student loans. Yet this far-left Democrat allegedly sat on her loans and called for Biden to push the burden onto middle and working-class Americans.
Many Americans were upset when Biden announces his plans. Hundreds of billions of dollars in student loans just don’t disappear. Those debts have to be paid by someone. And that massive bill would have passed from entitled college students to working Americans.
The Supreme Court struck down this program, saying only Congress has the power to make those kinds of decisions. Biden tried to get it down, via an executive order.
I guess AOC will have to use a portion of that nice salary to pay back her debts.
