During an interview with The Daily Caller, Dr. Ben Carson, a neurosurgeon, and past GOP presidential candidate, questioned President Bidens’ mental fitness, pointing to his frequent blunders as proof that the president is not quite mentally well.
“Well, you certainly want someone in that office who is a high performer, not a person whose staff has to come along behind him and clean up things he has said. Someone who can finish a sentence without using a teleprompter would also be beneficial.”
According to a May Harvard-Hall poll, just under 40% of independents feel Biden is “mentally healthy,” whereas 61% have concerns about his mental fitness. 83 percent of Republicans and 19 percent of Democrats also express concerns about Biden’s mental health.
Furthermore, 62 percent of respondents in the poll said Biden is demonstrating that he is “too old to be the president.”
“You are talking about someone with the nuclear codes, and so many issues that are crucial to Americans in his power,” Carson added.
Although Dr. Carson did not wish to offer a formal diagnosis of Biden’s mental health, he urged for mental status evaluations to be used in the future as part of a broader examination of those who are in leadership roles, specifically the president.
“I’m not sure if he’s got a mental issue, but we really should be in a position as a nation where we are willing to do mental testing on our leaders every year, especially our president. If they don’t pass the mental test, action must be taken.”
Meanwhile, Carson slammed the picture that is presented to adversarial nations like China, Russia, and Iran because some Americans don’t believe Biden has the mental capacity to be president.
“It sends the message that this is the moment to take advantage of a weakened United States. Recognize and acknowledge the position of the US and the rest of the world,” he continued. “There were all these tyrannical rulers traveling around terrorizing anyone who was weaker than them, but it subsided substantially during our peak strength.”
“However, as we begin to weaken, you’re beginning to see more despotic rulers arise, so it’s critical not only for our nation but for the rest of the world that we have strong and effective leadership,” Carson continued.
