Biden’s New Shipping “Solution” Has Everyone Scratching Their Heads

President Joe Biden, apparently is not to be deterred from giving unqualified nominations, announced that Retired Rear Admiral Ann Philips was his new nominee to lead the very important Maritime Administration — “the Dept. of Transportation agency that manages the country’s waterborne transport system” — a decision that is now being blasted by people in the shipping industry.

Normally, the MARAD position is filled and run without a lot of notice from the public. But normally there is not an unprecedented nationwide shortage happening that has transformed some of America’s top ports — namely the twin ports of LA and Long Beach — into giant floating parking lots.

The “world’s most-visited offshore sector news website” — gCaptain — said that “The appointment of Rear Admiral Ann Phillips is during a shipping crisis that dominates the world.” And while President Joe Biden has taken “strong action” to deal with the shipping crisis, “every action however was a misstep.”

No kidding. And now that we are seeing the impact of another Biden problem, he is doubling down on the terrible decisions by appointing “a very impressive and capable leader to run MARAD but one with no industry experience.”

“To an untrained eye the 139 ships sitting and waiting to leave LA might look like a port problem that can be solved by a United States Port Envoy, it is not. It is actually a SHIPPING crisis. Many ports around nation including San Diego and Oakland, have extra capacity, what we do not have is anyone with new SHIPPING experience at MARAD to direct these SHIPS to those empty ports. This week Biden addressed the country with a plan to stop containergeddon from interrupting Christmas but experts state that his plan will fail because, again, not even one captain was called to provide advice on how to deal with the SHIPPING crisis.”

Philips’ appointment to head MARAD is of course thanks to another Biden mistake: none other than Pete Buttigieg himself, who runs — when he is not on paternity leave — the Dept. of Transportation under which MARAD falls under.

The White House’s announcement of the nomination of Philips is more of the wokeness trend that is typified the Biden White House’s priorities — much ado about the future climate terror — without any kind of information about why she is qualified to handle shipping problems.
