In many major blue cities, crime is out of control. On top of that, poverty and homeless is spreading. Small businesses are shutting down, leading to more unemployment. Homeless shanty towns fill the streets, driving people out.
Millions of Americans live in fear because Democrats refuse to enforce their own laws. But worst of all, they have slashed police forces–giving criminals free rein to do as they please. In one blue city, they had already reduced its police force to a laughing stock. But they weren’t done yet. They just made this much worse, by cutting the department to next to nothing.
The Seattle City Council voted to permanently defund 80 police positions in a department that is dangerously understaffed. But they’ll tell you they fully funded the department.
The Seattle Police Department (SPD) has under 900 officers, with over 140 separations this year so far. The new staffing goal from Mayor Bruce Harrell — downgraded from 1,500-1,600 officers — is now just 1,400. There are so few deployable officers that precincts operate below staffing minimums, usually asking non-patrol officers to fill in to respond to 911 calls.
When allowed to commit funds to future hires the SPD so desperately needs, the council opted to cut funding to the positions permanently. Yet councilmembers still claim to support the police and argue they’re not defunding. [Source: 770 KTTH]
Seattle is already underwater with crime and rampant poverty. Yet its idiotic city council voted to cut another 80 positions from its police department. There are only 900 officers in the city. That is shockingly below what they need to actually keep the city safe.
There is roughly 740,000 people in the city. And only 900 cops? How in the world are they going to patrol this city, with so few officers? They are so desperate, they are enlisting non-officers to field 911 calls.
Oh, I’m sure that’s going to go over great. Send someone unequipped to handle a domestic abuse call or something worse.
Yet the city claims they are not defunding police. How bad does it have to get before the residents actually do something about this? They are the ones voting for this city council. The people need to wake up and start demanding the city enforce its laws.
But maybe the people are fine with rampant crime and a crumbling economy. Will there be a city left for much longer?
