The Democrat-controlled House Judiciary Committee has not yet recommended filing articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump.

But its probe into Trump is “in effect” an impeachment inquiry, committee chairman Rep. Jerrold Nadler, a Democrat from New York, said Friday.

Other Democrats on the committee, meanwhile, believe the term “impeachment investigation” is a good description of the committee’s latest actions.

Nadler said he’s “going to court Friday and again next week in bids to enforce subpoenas seeking grand jury information associated with the special counsel investigation and testimony from former White House counsel Donald McGahn, taking a step in the direction of possible impeachment,” The Washington Post reported.

“We are exercising our full Article 1 authority and continuing our investigation of the president’s malfeasances,” Nadler told reporters.

“We will consider what we have to consider, including whether we should recommend articles of impeachment to the House,” he added.

During a news conference, NBC News asked Nadler whether the Judiciary Committee has started an impeachment inquiry.

“Whether you call that an inquiry, or whatever you want to call that, that’s what we’ve been doing,” the New York Democrat responded, claiming that the committee has “in effect” been conducting one.

“I think too much has been made of the phrase ‘impeachment inquiry,’” he added.

Other Democrats on his committee were less hesitant to use the I-word.

“This is an impeachment investigation,” California Democratic Rep. Eric Swallwell, a former 2020 presidential candidate, said, according to the Washington Examiner.

“We are suggesting here is the first time we are telegraphing to the court that one remedy we have is impeachment,” Swallwell added.

Texas Democratic Rep. Veronica Escobar expressed similar sentiments.

“We are now crossing a threshold with this filing,” she said.

“And we are now officially entering into an examination of whether to begin articles of impeachment.”

One of her Democratic colleagues on the Judiciary Committee, Rep. Jamie Laskin of Maryland, was even blunter.

“I would say we are in an impeachment investigation,” Laskin, a former constitutional law professor, said, as The Hill reported.

According to the Examiner, 100 House Democrats have said they support impeachment.
