The Dem’s proverbial cannons have been aimed squarely at the two, but Senator Manchin is not phased in the least. In fact, the liberals in the Dem party have threatened to primary him, to which he effectively shrugged, and even welcomed them to try.
“I have been primaried my whole life. That would not be anything new… Bring it on,” Senator Manchin told journalists according to The Hill.
Dem are trying to punish Sinema and Manchin by putting them on the record as to their stance. The Hill reported that Democrat Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer is allowing the hard-left a chance to “let out their frustrations” with the two, allowing them to point their fingers for the party’s failure at anybody but themselves.
“The public is entitled to understand where each senator is on a topic as sacrosanct as defending our democracy,” Schumer said this week.
Still, Manchin is not phased and reiterated that he is not changing his mind.
“Most of my colleagues in the Dem caucus have changed their minds. I respect this. They have a right to alter their stance. I have not. I hope they respect this too. I have never changed my mind about the filibuster,” Manchin said to reporters.
For Manchin, the filibuster is a crucial part of the U.S. Senate and will not take part in changing it so that one party can have total rule over the nation.
“That has never happened. That has never happened in the history in our nation,” Senator Manchin stated on bills only require a simple majority instead of a supermajority.
Manchin’s rejection of this power grab is not just necessary, it is absolutely brave. Considering the Dem’s efforts to destroy him, he is not backing down. Interestingly enough, it is made him something of a powerhouse inside the Democrat Party.
To be sure, the Dem civil war is set to happen in way way or another, but we might be looking at the events that lead up to it.
