Under fire for her comments before the January 6 House committee, a White House aid said this week that she stands by her statement.
“Ms. Hutchinson reaffirms her statements before the Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the U.S. Capitol, made under oath,” Jody Hunt and William Jordan of Cassidy Hutchinson’s legal team said in a statement to The Daily Wire.
Cassidy Hutchinson, who worked as a White House staffer under President Donald Trump, claimed that Anthony Ornato, the head of the Secret Service’s Presidential Protection Division, informed her that an enraged Trump assaulted the head of his protection detail when agents refused to drive him to the Capitol on January 6, 2021.
Hutchinson also stated that during the trip, Trump attempted to take the steering wheel of the vehicle. She claimed that after Engel told him, “Sir, you need to remove your hand from the wheel,” Trump lunged at and assaulted him.
According to the USSS, they were not told about Hutchinson’s allegations by the committee before they were leaked as a major special.
A USSS official said Ornato has disputed Hutchinson’s account, according to CNN, and Ornato and Robert Engel, Donald Trump’s security chief are willing to deny the tale. The Secret Service is prepared to refute the claim, according to ABC.
In a post on his social media site, Truth Social, Trump referred to Hutchinson as a “phony social climber.”
“The lies and fraudulent tales that were told to the Unselect Committee, not just by the phony social climber that was caught yesterday but by numerous other people, are a disgrace to our country, which is in serious decline,” he added.
“There will be no cross-examination, no genuine Republicans, or attorneys. ZERO pushback is allowed in the construction of a fake narrative with NO REAL STORIES and UNSELECTED should be made to disband,” he stated. “WITCH HUNT!”
On January 6, the committee’s chairman, Bennie Thompson (D-MS), declined to comment for this story.
