Congressional Democrats are gearing up for another all–out assault on President Trump, this time even more absurd than the last.
Despite being in the midst of fighting a pandemic that is tearing through the nation, Democrats are more concerned with waging war on the president as he looks to guide the nation through this troubling time.
Democrats are reportedly in the early stages of putting together a “9/11-style commission” to investigate the Trump administration’s response to the coronavirus pandemic.
According to an NBC News report, “informal discussions” have begun on the possibility of forming up an investigative committee, and that plans are still “very preliminary.”
The news organization also says, however, that the planning discussions have settled on at least two specific areas of focus: pandemic preparedness and the Trump Administration’s use of the National Defense Authorization Act.
“One option could be a plan to review the administration’s response in the annual National Defense Authorization Act,” two sources told NBC News. “The review would focus on lessons learned about the government’s preparedness and what the administration could have handled better, they said, adding that the goal would be to come up with a better plan to handle a pandemic in the future.”
Of course at the forefront of these conversations, is the man who’s only goal apparently is to investigate Trump, Democrat Adam Schiff.
Schiff teased a possible House investigation on Twitter Wednesday with an announcement that he’s “working on a possible bill” to create a “nonpartisan commission” on coronavirus.
“After Pearl Harbor and 9/11, we looked at what went wrong to learn from our mistakes,” Schiff tweeted. “Once we’ve recovered, we need a nonpartisan commission to review our response and how we can better prepare for the next pandemic. I’m working on a bill to do that.”
Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi also hinted at the possibility of an investigation on Sunday in an interview with CNN.
“What did he know, and when did he know it?” Pelosi asked about Trump. “That’s for an after-action review.”
Republicans were certainly not quiet about their feelings on the matter, as Schiff faced heavy for spearheading yet another witch-hunt. Committee Ranking Republican Rep. Devin Nunes accused this of being a “dumb stunt.”
“His Russia collusion hoax failed, his Ukraine scam failed, and his efforts to cover up FISA abuse failed,” Nunes, told Fox News on Wednesday. “So, Schiff is launching yet another dumb stunt to justify his never-ending media relations operation.”
Rep. Jim Jordan also said in a statement: “The same people who delayed the Coronavirus relief bill because they demanded giveaways for special interests and millions for the Kennedy Center now want to create a commission to attack the Trump Administration’s response? Give me a break. And the person who is leading this effort is Adam Schiff — the same Adam Schiff who released the phone records of the President’s personal attorney, a journalist, and a sitting Member of Congress. We should focus on stopping the virus, not politicizing the crisis.”
