In a statement that sounded more like a rally speech, Trump announced Tuesday night that he’s named Musk and Ramaswamy to head the newly minted Department of Government Efficiency.
The goal? Slice through the tangled mess of government bureaucracy, strip out the inefficiency, and put Washington on a strict diet of common sense. “The Great Elon Musk” and “American Patriot Vivek Ramaswamy” have Trump’s full confidence, and, according to him, they’re exactly the kind of go-getters this movement needs.
“Together, these two wonderful Americans will pave the way for my administration to dismantle government bureaucracy,” Trump said, clearly pumped.
He described the plan as one that will “send shockwaves through the system,” and Musk, never one to miss a dramatic opportunity, went straight to X (formerly Twitter) to give his two cents: “Threat to democracy? Nope, threat to BUREAUCRACY!!!”
Musk’s enthusiasm might be unmatched, but Ramaswamy’s not far behind. Responding with a sly, “We will not go gently, @elonmusk,” he’s already hinting that this duo isn’t here to play nice.
They’re here to shake things up, potentially all the way down to the foundation. And for anyone in Washington sitting on comfy government contracts and padded expense accounts, that shake-up probably feels like a full-blown earthquake.
Musk and Ramaswamy are comparing their mission to nothing less than the Manhattan Project, except this time, the aim isn’t a new kind of energy—it’s a new kind of government.
