Millions of Americans blame Joe Biden for the disaster that has become Afghanistan. Over the last few weeks, we watched the situation go from bad to worse. It all culminated in a tragic terror attack that left numerous people hurt or killed, including 13 American service members.
On top of that misery was Joe Biden’s response. He gave a weak, unconvincing statement late in the day. Beyond that, he didn’t seem all that concerned that terrorists had targeted our people. Things got even worse when he was present for the dignified transfer ceremony, where the families of these fallen soldiers received their children’s bodies.
People criticized Biden, who was photographed looking at his watch. For some reason, a newspaper jumped in to try to defend the failing president. Now, they are forced to take it back.
In the original fact check, USA Today labeled the claim that Biden checked his watch repeatedly during the ceremony “Partly False,”… The fact check did not include the testimonies of several Gold Star families, who claimed to have personally witnessed Biden’s actions…
After significant backlash, USA Today issued a correction, admitting that Biden did check his watch during the ceremony and including Gold Star family statements…
“As my son and the rest of our fallen heroes were being taken off the plane yesterday I watched you disrespect us all five different times by checking your watch,” Shana Chappell, mother of Marine Lance Cpl. Kareem Nikoui, wrote…
Darin Hoover, father of Marine Staff Sgt. Darin Taylor Hoover Jr., and Mark Schmitz, father of Marine Lance Cpl. Jared Schmitz, told Fox News’ Sean Hannity that Biden checked his watch multiple times during the dignified transfer. Hoover said it happened after each casket was presented. [Source: Breitbart]
Not only did Biden check his watch during this solemn and important event, but he did so several times. Numerous eye-witnesses, the families of the fallen, attest that Biden seemed inattentive, checking his watch again and again.
Yet USA Today went out of its way to defend Biden before getting all the facts. They tried to paper over the crisis by saying Biden checked his watch after the ceremony. That was a bald-faced lie. When Trump attended these ceremonies, he was seen saluting caskets. He spent time speaking with the families, listening to their stories and offering consolation.
According to most of the families who spoke with Joe, he spent the time talking about himself and his dead son. They said he didn’t even listen to their stories. One mother claimed Joe rolled his eyes when she confronted him.
Why did this paper feel the need to step in and protect Biden? Where did they get the claim that he only checked his watch after the event—when photos clearly show him doing it during the transfer? Would parents of fallen soldiers make this up, after meeting Biden face-to-face?
I think we know why USA Today did it. The shock is that they later copped to it.
