Let’s just say it. The FBI hasn’t been on Americans’ good side in a long time. The FBI was marred, perhaps irreparably, in 2017 when it launched investigations against then-President Trump. We learned that the agency lied to acquire warrants to spy on American citizens and a White House administration.
But it only got worse from there.
The FBI suppressed the Hunter Biden laptop story in October 2020, to deliberately protect Joe Biden’s election chances. Then, over the summer, it staged a shocking and unprecedented raid on Donald Trump’s home, the former rival of a sitting president. It can’t get much worse for these guys, can it?
It can. Twitter Files bombshell revealed the FBI was coercing the social giant to censor stories that were damaging to Democrats just before the Presidential Election. And now, experts are saying the bureau could be in big trouble.
The FBI may have may have violated the First Amendment by asking Twitter to moderate certain speech, as revealed in a recent “Twitter Files” release, constitutional experts tell Fox News Digital…
Twitter’s former head of safety, Yoel Roth, apparently attended weekly meetings with the FBI, the Department of Homeland Security and the Director of National Intelligence about moderating misinformation ahead of the 2020 election…
In October 2020, just weeks before the election, the FBI prompted Twitter to take action after it flagged two tweets related to alleged voter fraud, according to a screenshot of internal communications posted by Taibbi…
Heritage Foundation senior legal fellow Hans von Spakovsky told Fox News Digital that while Twitter is a private company that is free to moderate content, the company could be viewed as an agent for the federal government if it is found to be taking its direction.
“The First Amendment applies to the government and prohibits censorship by government agencies and entities, not private actors,” Von Spakovsky said. [Source: Fox News]
This is pretty bad for Democrats, the FBI, Joe Biden, and numerous former executives at Twitter. The revelations that came out from Elon Musk’s “Twitter Files” showed the world that the social network was censoring information, based on guidance provided by Democrats in Washington. The FBI and DHS met regularly with a top Twitter exec, directing the company on what they could and couldn’t post.
The FBI compelled Twitter to censor posts from conservative figures. It also had a hand in blocking news of the Hunter Biden laptop from reaching millions of voters. Experts pointed out that, while Twitter had the right to control the content on its platform, doing so at the direction of the government violates the First Amendment.
The First Amendment prevents the government from restricting free speech. That also means the government cannot instruct a private company to censor free speech. But based on these documents, the government was doing just that.
It is likely that House Republicans will investigate these revelations. Chances are, they will discover that the FBI–and other Democrat-controlled agencies–frequently instructed social networks to censor conservatives. That could bring serious consequences to these agencies. Perhaps indictments.
