On “The View,” Whoopi Goldberg called for Americans to be deputized to snitch on their gun-toting neighbors.
The remarks were made as gun control advocates seek answers following yet another large murder in the United States. The assailant killed 19 schoolchildren, two adult educators, and injured at least a dozen additional people.
During the panel’s discussion of the awful shooting (and mostly laid the blame on Republicans), Goldberg recommended that the United States adopt a similar restrictive anti-gun policy like Texas’ polarizing abortion legislation.
“I just want to compliment Governor Abbott for signing 22 bills this year that makes it easier for mass shooters in his state to purchase, carry, and own firearms,” Goldberg began.
“How about we enforce his abortion laws against guns and recruit citizens to sue anybody who causes gun violence? So you sold an AR-15 at the gun show? You have been duly notified. Is your neighbor’s weapons arsenal excessive? Call the cops.”
“Some Supreme Court logic” was then invoked by Goldberg.
“The Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito stated that abortion is not protected by the Constitution, therefore neither are AR-15s. So I suppose the Constitution doesn’t apply to them either. Life is so precious; stop using weapons to take innocent lives.”
When co-host Joy Behar tried to interject and point out that Americans should cease voting for Republicans, Goldberg responded by noting that they need to choose “better Republicans” instead.
So, what does it mean to be a “better Republican”? Politicians who support outlawing AR-15 rifles, according to Goldberg.
“Get people who are going to look at it and say, ‘OK, we don’t need AR-15s,’ but we want to keep our shotgun because we still hunt. OK. You can keep your shotgun, but you will not be allowed to have an AR-15. If you’re going to get involved in my family’s business and tell me what they may or may not do, neither will you,” she added.
“They’re going to come for those AR-15s,” she said. “You’d better get ready to surrender them because this is America. We were intended to be able to do what we want and be who we wanted, but now we are in an absurd place.”
