Ever since Special Counsel Hur’s report came out, Biden has been fighting a losing battle. The DOJ investigator called into question the president’s mental fitness. Biden, for his part, conducted a disastrous press conference to combat the claims.
It appears there are renewed calls to test Biden’s mental fitness. Perhaps Democrats are starting to become worried, as there are only months before the election.
Some Republicans are calling for the use of the 25th Amendment, in earnest. It is unclear what might happen next. But it’s becoming harder for Democrats to deny Biden’s struggles. And Vice President Harris just shocked the country with this comment.
Vice President Kamala Harris was detailing her priorities for the campaign during a flight on Air Force Two early last week when she was asked a delicate question hanging over the Democratic ticket: Do voters’ concerns about President Biden’s age mean she must convince them she is ready to serve?
“I am ready to serve. There’s no question about that,” Harris responded bluntly. Everyone who sees her on the job, Harris said, “walks away fully aware of my capacity to lead.” [Source: Wall Street Journal]

Kamala Harris told reporters that she’s “ready to serve” when asked about the growing concern over Biden’s health. Now, putting aside the fact most Americans disagree with her claim, for Harris to even say this could set off alarm bells among Democrats.
For years, the White House has denied any claims about Biden’s cognitive decline. Harris and most Democrats were all-in for a second Biden term. But now, Harris is talking about her readiness to jump into the driver’s seat, before anyone has mentioned removing Biden from office.
This could suggest that the White House is already considering removing Joe. With the election this November, they fear the damage the report has caused to Biden’s chances. Joe already has a terrible approval rating. Now, he’s probably convinced many Americans that he is unfit to lead—with the terrible press conference.
Could it be that in a matter of days the administration will convince Joe to step down? If things get worse, that might be their only option.
It is likely they will hold off on that until the last moment. Switching to Harris is a huge risk. She has a worse approval than Biden’s. She will no doubt fumble at leading the country. And if she ends up the nominee, she will likely run against Donald Trump. That is something she does not appear “ready” to take on.
But if Biden does get worse, that might be the only choice Democrats have left.
