As cases of COVID-19 decline and numerous states plan to reopen, Democrat Governor of Michigan Gretchen Whitmer mulls extending her state’s lockdown. Already her extreme rules have brought a series of protests. The latest saw protestors gathered outsider her house. Now, her own state’s lawmakers are deciding if it’s time to cut the queen off.
I know, we’ve talked about it before, but it bears repeating. The panic created by COVID-19 allowed crooked Democratic leaders to overstep their lawful powers. The so-called “party of the people” turned into a gropu of literal dictators. But surprisingly, the worst of them all wasn’t Gov. Newsom of CA nor Cuomo of NY, but Gretchen Whitmer of… Michigan?
California and New York had their fair share of strict rules. (And New York’s mayor’s snitching rule makes Orwell look like Mickey Mouse). But nobody overstepped their power quite like Gretchen. Among her ridiculous rules to “slow” the spread of the virus was a ban on buying seeds, forbidding residents from going to vacation homes, and—worst of all—forbidding free American citizens from visiting the private residents of family and friends.
That’s right, in the Communist Republican of Michigan, you might get arrested if you leave your house to hang out with a friend (at their house).
You don’t have to be a legal expert to know that is un-Constitutional. And it’s brought a series of protests outside the capital, and later Whitmer’s own house. Now, her leaders are deciding if enough’s and enough and they should reduce the governor’s power.
Protesters gathered outside the home of Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer on Thursday — the same day reports emerged that she plans to extend the state’s coronavirus stay-at-home order by two weeks until May 15…
Meanwhile, the Michigan Legislature has scheduled a special session for Friday with the goal of creating an oversight committee to review Whitmer’s coronavirus orders and possibly strip her of some of her powers…
“The House & Senate will convene tomorrow to create a special oversight committee on COVID-19 to examine our government’s response,” [Michigan House Speaker Lee Chatfield] wrote. “Michigan needs to handle this pandemic seriously yet properly. It’s what the people deserve, and we will see that it happens.”
…Chatfield noted that marijuana, lottery tickets and alcohol had been declared “essential,” while lawn care, construction and fishing in a motorized boat had been declared nonessential amid the outbreak. [Source: Fox News]
Seems like Gov. Whitmer was pretty random when it came to deciding what purchases were essential or non-essential. Not to mention her wild abuse of power, thinking she could harass private citizens who were just trying to visit friends or family.
These lockdowns have gone so far as to ruin the lives of millions. Important events and milestones have been upended. People can’t work or go to school. A silver lining in all this was the chance to visit a friend or two, just to cheer ourselves up.
Whitmer didn’t even want that.
Keep in mind, we are all free Americans. We can both go about our lives while still protecting ourselves from disease. We did that every day before this “crisis.” Yet Whitmer, and so many other Democrats, think we are too stupid or weak to take that responsibility into our own hands. They have turned this country into a nanny state, where we have to first consult the government before we do anything.
If a flood of lawsuits doesn’t overwhelm state and local governments, I have little faith in the future of our country.
Time will tell if Michigan’s legislature goes ahead and stripes Whitmer of her power. But I know a surefire way to prevent her from doing this again: kicking her out of office.
