Democrats at the state level have been waging feuds against red states for years. Democrats put up billboards in conservative states, urging residents to leave.
In some cases, Democrat governors have banned state employees from traveling to certain Republican-led states for business.
One Republican-led state has been the target of numerous campaigns by progressive groups. They have even urged Americans to avoid this state, despite being a vacation hotspot. But how successful have these liberals been?
Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) touted the estimated 35.1 million visitors who traveled to Florida from July through September 2023, according to the state. DeSantis said the record numbers show the state is “a beacon of freedom for travelers.”
“Florida continues to set records for visitation because of our commitment to allowing visitors to enjoy their travels without arbitrary government restrictions,” DeSantis said in a statement. [Source: The Washington Examiner]
Over the Summer of 2023, Florida saw over 35 million visitors. In the first 9 months of the year, over 105 million people visited the Republican-led state. Gov. DeSantis knocked Democrats critical of his state, saying Florida is a “become of freedom.”
The governor of California has tried to slander Florida. Gov. Newsom even aired ads claiming Florida was “restricting” the freedoms of its residents. It’s unclear in what way Florida was doing this. But critics were quick to slam Newsom over his state’s years-long COVID lockdown restrictions.
Florida was one of the first states to reopen after COVID and it refused Biden’s mandates. Because of this, Americans have been flocking to the state since the Fall of 2020. Florida has not only see a tourist boom, but tens of thousands have moved from blue states to make it their home.
Thanks to the economic policies of the Biden administration, the last few Summers have seen record-look vacation spending. Despite this, Florida boasted millions of visitors this year alone.
Democrats have been particularly angry with Florida, due to conservative laws passed by its governor. DeSantis championed a parental rights law that banned gender ideology from being taught in Florida public schools.
That move triggered the anger of Disney, which vowed to overturn the law. Instead, Florida has fought the Hollywood corporation, revoking its special tax status and beating it in court.
