Across America, numerous states have embraced a policy that puts parents in charge of their children’s education. It’s called school choice and it provides money that would have gone to public schools and gives it to parents. The family can then use that money to send their children to high-performing schools, including private or charter schools.
Sounds like a great idea, right? Even black and minority families love this idea, since it gets their kids out of terrible, inner-city public schools. But guess who hates this idea? Democrats. The radical left is run by corrupt teachers’ unions that lose money if parents take their kids out of their low-performing schools.
So, powerful teachers’ unions have coerced Democrats into opposing school choice, even though millions of Democrat-voting Americans love it. But in one red state, the governor is striking a win for parents.
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has been on the road rallying for school choice legislation across the Lone Star State, saying education freedom is one of his top priorities.
“My job is to make sure we get across the finish line a piece of legislation that will return mom and dad to being in charge of their child’s education in the great state of Texas,” Abbott said Tuesday night at an event promoting school choice near Houston.
Abbott is backing a proposal, SB 8, which would provide families with $8,000 per student in an education savings account and allow them to spend the money on approved private school tuition. School choice typically allows tax dollars to follow a student as opposed to a specific school district. [Source: Fox News]
It’s kind of surprising that Texas hasn’t jumped on the school choice bandwagon yet. But that tells you just how influential these teachers’ unions are. Even in a red state like Texas, corrupt liberal unions are pulling the strings when it comes to our public schools. According to the legislation, the state will provide $8,000 for tuition.
Parents can use this money to send their kids to a school of their choice, instead of the local public school.
This is very attractive to parents, especially as they become aware of the kind of curriculum being spread in government-run schools. If liberals aren’t teaching critical race theory to our kids, they are welcoming drag queens to read to them.
School choice empowers parents to ensure their children get a quality education, without their minds being warped by the radical left. It poses the biggest threat to Democrats’ scheme of brainwashing our children.
Which is why every American needs to support it.
