Joe Biden has made a major goal of his presidency to “end” the use of oil and other fossil fuels. He said in a 2020 debate that his administration would “phase out” these sources of energy. High gas prices have been caused by Biden canceling leases to drill for oil on federal land.
The administration has pushed car makers to switch to electric vehicles, despite a lack of interest among consumers. Several states have gambled on Biden’s “green” agenda. California passed a law that will ban the sale of new gas-powered cars in just a few years.
Other liberal-leaning states have considered similar laws. One swing state followed California’s lead, passing a similar law. Now, its Republican governor is taking steps to reverse this rule.
Virginia Republican Gov. Glenn Youngkin is reportedly looking to [repeal] an electric vehicle mandate tied to California’s own environmental regulations should his party secure enough support in the upcoming legislative elections…
Youngkin spokeswoman Macaulay Porter told the Washington Examiner that, should Republicans topple Democratic leadership in the Senate, the law tying Richmond to Sacramento on environmental policy would become a key target for the GOP. [Source: Just the News]
When Democrats were running Virginia, they passed a law obligating the state to follow California’s automobile standards. Any laws or rules the West Coast state passed would be applied directly to the East Coast state.
But Republican Gov. Glenn Youngkin is planning on repealing this law, should he get enough Republicans in office after this year’s off-cycle election.
Critics of this law have questioned whether Virginia is “outsourcing” its energy policy to a state as progressive as California. Moves like this no doubt had motivated voters in previous elections to put more Republicans in power.
Republicans currently control the governor’s office and the House of Delegates. Should they win enough seats in Virginia’s Senate, they will be able to reverse this energy policy.
Biden’s green agenda has been far from successful. Reports indicate that one out of five consumers who bought an EV switched back to a traditional car. Car companies that banked on Biden’s EV tax breaks have lost billions, including Ford Motor Company.
Energy prices have skyrocketed since Biden took office. His anti-fossil fuel policy has resulted in rising gas and electricity prices across the country. The green alternatives he is championing have not appeared to meet demand. Some experts have warned that without fossil fuels, America’s energy grid would collapse.
