Republicans Release ‘Pandora’s Box’ On Democrats

GOP Senator Lindsey Graham (S.C.) has told Democrats that if they try to bring in just one witness in their upcoming impeachment trial against President Donald Trump, they will be opening “Pandora’s Box.”

In January, the DNC-controlled House impeached Trump for a second time on the charge of “incitement of insurrection” after a group of conservatives went into the U.S. Capitol as Congress was in session. The issue has now moved onto the upper chamber, where a trial will start next week.

Senator Graham, the soon to be former chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, said he wants a fast trial and acquittal of President Trump. But added that if Democrats choose to prolong the trial for weeks and turn it into a “political show,” Republicans are prepared to call the FBI to testify about security failures at the Capitol.

“If you do that, we will want the FBI to come and tell us how these attacks were planned and what went wrong with the security at the Capitol,” Graham stated.

“You will open up Pandora’s box if only one witness is called,” he added. “I hope that does not happen and we get this trial over with next week.”

With the impeachment trial’s Feb. 9 date approaching, Reuters revealed Monday that Democrats overseeing the impeachment process should announce whether or not to call witnesses as early as Tuesday.

Democrats are expected to come up against an uphill battle, especially since 45 of the GOP’s 50 senators voted against the impeachment trial last week, causing Senator Rand Paul (R-Ky.) to label the agenda “dead on arrival.” Democrats would need at least 17 Republican senators to find President Trump guilty.

Meanwhile, Trump, is assembling a legal team and preparing his defense. A conviction in the Upper Chamber would mean little, since Donald Trump has already left office. But an impeachment ruling could open the possibility for a vote to prevent him from ever seeking public office again.
