A Black Lives Matter protest over the death of George Floyd, a black Minnesota man, in police custody led to demonstrators burning the American flag.
Protestors stormed the streets of Los Angeles, California, Wednesday night, days after Floyd died following a Minneapolis city police officer pinning him down by placing a knee on his neck during an arrest, which sparked outrage across the country.
“BLM protesters are trying to burn an American flag while blocking traffic in downtown Los Angeles,” Townhall’s Julio Rosas tweeted, sharing a video of the protest.

Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva responded to the protest, tweeting: “As Sheriff of @CountyofLA, I share in the nation’s outrage over the tragic death of George Floyd. Police brutality is unacceptable under any circumstances, and in order to gain the public’s trust, we have to respect the very rule of law, we are sworn to uphold.”

The city of Minneapolis identified Derek Chauvin, Thomas Lane, Tou Thao, and J. Alexander Keung as the officers involved in Floyd’s death and has fired all four of them. The Los Angeles Police Department expressed sympathy over the incident.
“Earlier we saw people on the streets of Downtown L.A., at times going onto the 101 freeway, to protest the death of George Floyd,” the department said. “We hear your anger & your pain. We will always facilitate freedom of speech. Period. All we ask is that protests are held in a safe & legal manner.”
Protests also broke out in Minneapolis on Tuesday and Wednesday, which turned deadly and resulted in the mayor calling for help from the National Guard.
