Social Networks On Alert As Trump Prepares Historic Order

Recently, social network Twitter took drastic steps to interfere with the president’s comments online. President Trump hammered the site, calling out social media’s history of censoring conservatives. He promised to take action if the trend didn’t end. Now, word is swirling that the president is about to sign an executive order.

Ever since the 2016 Election, social networks have found ways of discriminating against conservative users. From popular figures to everyday people, these social media giants have tried to silence, hide, or outright ban anyone right of center.

The reason is clear. The leftists who run these sites don’t want conservative ideas to spread. That could mean more people like Trump are elected to public office. Social media is in cahoots with the MSM to spread far-left propaganda. They want Americans to believe Trump is a monster and that progressive, liberal policies are the only ones that work.

The fact that they need to censor conservatives to accomplish this proves how little confidence they have in their own arguments.

It all came to a head this week, when Twitter dared to “fact check” Trump’s tweets about mail-in voting. That sparked outraged from the president and many others. As a result, it is reported that Trump is about to sign an EO.

President Trump will sign an executive order on social media on Thursday, the White House said.

White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany said Wednesday she could not get ahead of the president to explain the purpose and intent of the order, but confirmed it would be coming then.

Earlier Wednesday, Trump warned social media giants that the federal government could “strongly regulate” or “close them down” if they continue to “silence conservative voices,” amid his flaring battle with Twitter after the platform fact-checked one of his tweets for the first time this week. Twitter has increasingly pushed censorship on its site, similar to Facebook and YouTube. But its move to contradict the president’s concerns over mail-in voting appears to be the last straw. Add to the fact that the man in charge of Twitter’s “Site Integrity” is an outspoken leftist who regularly insults Trump supporters, you have a big problem brewing.

The White House press secretary did not expound on what would be in the executive order. Chances are, we will see it later today. But there are a few things we know Trump can do to crack down on social media censorship.

Trump can direct federal agencies to intervene on the situation. The FCC has power to regulate communications in the country. They can play a huge role in determining the future of websites like Twitter. At the president’s direction, they can impose new regulations that limit how much social media sites can interfere with their users’ posts.

And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. There are federal grants provided by agencies to numerous industries. Trump can cut off these grants and other federal funding to social networks that refuse to allow free speech on their sites. President Trump did something similar to colleges. He promised to withhold federal aid to any school that denied free speech on their campuses. What do ya know, it worked.

Through an executive order, Trump can set the stage for a larger movement. He can motivate Congress to launch investigations and ultimately pass legislation that holds social media accountable for censorship.

Even Democrats have reason to want this. If Twitter can do it to conservatives, it can do it to liberals. There have been cases when big tech sites hurt liberal groups in favor of large corporate advertisers.

If I were in charge of a social network, I would be worried right now. I would, perhaps, start developing a plan to end my years of discrimination against conservatives. Push new rules that lets everyone speak their mind freely—without fears of Orwellian control.

But hey, that’s just me.
