Ever since Liz Cheney openly attacked Donald Trump—and voted against him in the House’s bogus impeachment—things have not been going well for her. The daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney has faced intense backlash for siding with Democrats. Apparently, when you turn on the candidate most of your state voted for in the election, they don’t like it.
Wyoming’s Republican Party has been inundated with calls and messages from outraged residents. Over 100 Republican House members called for her removal from a key leadership position. Her state’s GOP voted to censure her. And a state lawmaker has already started a campaign to primary against her in 2022.
Now, a top Republican congressman is joining the fight. He traveled all the way to Wyoming to defy her.
Congressman Matt Gaetz (R-FL) rallied in Wyoming on Thursday against Congresswoman Liz Cheney (R-WY), making good on his earlier promise to travel west in an effort to let Wyoming know they “can do better.”
“How can you call yourself a representative when you don’t represent the will of the people,” said Gaetz, addressing a crowd of several hundred, reports Politico…
“The truth is that the establishment in both political parties have teamed up to screw our fellow Americans for generations,” said Gaetz. “The private insider club of Joe Biden, Mitch McConnell, Mitt Romney, Nancy Pelosi and Liz Cheney, they want to return our government to its default setting: enriching them.”
After the event, the Florida congressman tweeted: “Liz, you should come to Wyoming sometime. It’s beautiful here!” [Source: Daily Wire]
The best Cheney’s office could do in response to Gaetz’s opposition was to claim he used a “beauty bag.” Not the best comeback, Liz. Your state hates you right now, because you turned on your people. Gaetz has a consistent track record for supporting President Trump and the conservative agenda. Maybe Cheney should come up with a better answer.
Gaetz’s argument against Cheney is a pretty solid one. Wyoming overwhelmingly supported Trump in the 2020 Election. It’s obvious the majority of residents wanted him and his agenda. But the moment the media cooked up a new narrative against him, Cheney was all too quick to throw him under the bus.
Even if she sincerely believed Trump did something wrong, she is required to put her constituents first. She should have considered what they wanted and listened to their concerns. Instead, she backed an agenda from the left which ignored due process, evidence, and any semblance of legality. She condemned the president without listening to any facts, so quick it seems to get on the swamp’s good side.
Whether Gaetz is right about Cheney being part of the “default” Washington swamp, we can’t say. If she is just doing it to get rich, we can’t prove. But regardless of that, Wyoming citizens are listening and watching. Cheney’s support for the impeachment speaks volumes—and I’m certain many voters back home believe what Gaetz has said.
Can Cheney turn it around in time? I guess we’ll have to see.
