Donald Trump has defied the GOP establishment by refusing to attend their primary debates. Given his massive polling lead, Trump has urged the party to cancel debates and devote its resources to defeating Joe Biden.
The party has refused to listen to him. Meanwhile, it is struggling to bring in donations from voters.
Trump has hosted events on the same nights as events. This week, he attended a Fox News town hall, while two other candidates debated on CNN. Now, we have discovered which event was more interesting to viewers.
The former president’s appearance garnered far more views than the debate held on CNN between Nikki Haley and Ron DeSantis.
According to Forbes, data compiled by Nielsen showed that Trump’s town hall drew in 4.335 million viewers, compared to the debate’s 2.587 million. [Source: The Post Millennial]
Donald Trump’s town hall on Fox brought in almost 2 million more viewers than the debate between Ron DeSantis and Nikki Haley. Only 2.5 million viewers tuned in to see the second and third-placed candidates argue.
Meanwhile, 4.3 million Americans watched Trump’s town hall, where he fielded numerous questions from viewers.
This will not come as a surprise to many people. Trump is leading by about 30 points, according to most primary polls. His closest rivals are so far behind, that it does not appear as if they pose a real threat to his campaign.
Despite plenty of campaigning, many debates, and millions of dollars spent, neither DeSantis nor Haley has come within striking distance of Trump. Anything can happen, come primary voting time. But it does not appear as if anyone will be able to beat Trump and win the nomination.
Trump has already started talking about his running mate, something candidates do after they win the nomination. The former president revealed he has decided who he wants as his neck VP—but has not revealed it to the country.
It is unlikely he will pick someone currently running against him.
