President Donald Trump has called on Congress to look into “anti-American” practices of corporate and big technology firms that restrict free speech.
During the Turning Point USA Student Action Summit in Tampa, Florida on Saturday, President Trump made these comments:
“But I’ll speak about the next crucial battle that we need to wage is for you to put your energy into pushing for free speech restoration in America. There is no such thing as a democracy without the freedom of speech. We don’t have free speech anymore. We’ve had our culture taken away from us, and we’ve been fed fake news media that reports stories incorrectly.”
He also criticized corporate media for its one-sided coverage of political issues and for collaborating with the Democrats:
“And if it’s good about the other side, they make it much better, and if it’s bad about the other side, they won’t report it. We saw that in the election when they wouldn’t publish bad news about the other side. It’s a disgrace. The media has overstepped its boundaries and are no longer held in high regard. They have taken a place in our society and history that no one ever anticipated.”
“If censorship continues to spread across the nation, America will become ‘Venezuela on steroids,’” he continued.
“If debate is prevented, if dissidence is stifled. If conservative thought can be systematically silenced, we don’t have a free country anymore. That’s how it was with communism and other nations previously. That’s what happened in Venezuela.”
“The next Congress and the next president have a civic responsibility to be ruthless in combating this new censorship regime,” Trump stated.
“Because if we do not eliminate censorship, it will inevitably destroy America. Our nation will decay from the inside out because of the evil and sheer confusion,” he explained.
“As soon as we have the ability. A full-scale inquiry into the development of fully anti-American behavior is needed immediately,” Trump stated.
