Republicans spent four years battling to defeat Nancy Pelosi and take back the gavel. This week, they start the new Congress with control of the House. Yet, despite all this, the GOP can’t get its act together and pick a new Speaker. A small group of Republicans is refusing to support Kevin McCarthy, even though he has been their leader for years.
Donald Trump has even weighed in on the issue. Via TRUTH Social, he called on House Republicans to get their acts together and vote in McCarthy. Then, they can get to work pushing back Biden’s toxic agenda and saving the American people.
Some really good conversations took place last night, and it’s now time for all of our GREAT Republican House Members to VOTE FOR KEVIN, CLOSE THE DEAL, TAKE THE VICTORY, & WATCH CRAZY NANCY PELOSI FLY BACK HOME TO A VERY BROKEN CALIFORNIA,THE ONLY SPEAKER IN U.S. HISTORY TO HAVE LOST THE “HOUSE” TWICE! REPUBLICANS, DO NOT TURN A GREAT TRIUMPH INTO A GIANT & EMBARRASSING DEFEAT. IT’S TIME TO CELEBRATE, YOU DESERVE IT. Kevin McCarthy will do a good job, and maybe even a GREAT JOB – JUST WATCH! But this small group of Republicans are poised to bring down the entire Republican Party. And one of Trump’s own protege’s–a man who won his seat thanks to Donald–just turned on him.
Rep. Matt Gaetz, the Florida Republican congressman-elect who rose to prominence under former President Donald Trump’s wing, went rogue after the former president endorsed GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy of California for House speaker.
Gaetz told Fox News Digital that Trump’s endorsement of McCarthy for speaker has not changed the congressman’s view on the former president or GOP leader, nor has swayed his vote.
“Sad!” Gaetz said in a Wednesday statement. “This changes neither my view of McCarthy, nor Trump, nor my vote.” [Source: Fox News]
This is truly sickening. Matt Gaetz, who has been the subject of controversy in recent days, would not even be in Congress if it wasn’t for Trump. He comes from a very conservative district in Florida. In 2018, he rode Trump’s coattails to get elected to the House. Yet today, he is throwing his former hero under the bus–for God knows why.
It’s unclear why a small number of Republicans in the House are opposing McCarthy’s Speakership. They claim he’s not conservative enough or some other excuse. It seems like they’d rather fight and make a mockery of the party, instead of unite for the good of the country.
Say what you will about Democrats (and we have) but at least they can put aside their petty fights and unite. For years, the Democrats have prevented a civil war between progressives and moderates. Because they know they are stronger when they work together, even when their goals are bad for America.
Republicans can’t do the same with goals that would actually help the economy. And men like Gaetz are undermining the GOP’s attempts at stopping Biden with his petty bickering.
