Talking in Washington, D.C., at a dinner where prominent GOP were in attendance, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) went for the mainstream media, stressing that they never apologized for trumpeting the Russian collusion hoax that targeted Trump, that the media wants to “gaslight” and smear Americans.
“When we veer away from the truth as we are, those who stand up and report the truth will come under fire,” said DeSantis. “This kind of society goes after truth-tellers more than anybody because they understand those who tell the truth are a threat to their power. In these times, there is no substitute for having courage.”
DeSantis asserted, “We have got a media that for over two years formed a fake conspiracy hoax involving Russian collusion. I was in Congress when this started. I was one of only a few people who knew this was BS from the start. But they pushed it. And they used it. And it was all because they disagreed with the 2016 election.”
He commented on the media targeting those who complained about the election: “They spoke about people complaining about 2020? They never accepted Trump. They manufactured a hoax theory to try to get him out of office and destroy his presidency and we know it was fake. We know there was no truth to this.”
DeSantis seemed to be talking about the Russian collusion theory, that ended with Special Counsel Robert Mueller finding no good evidence after over and exhaustive two year investigation. The special counsel investigation “could not find that Trump, or anyone associated with him, coordinated with the Russian government during these efforts, despite many efforts from Russian-affiliated people to help the Trump campaign.”
“Have they apologized?” DeSantis asked rhetorically. “Have they even said, ‘We were wrong’? No, they give awards to each other. They actually give Pulitzer Prizes for fake stories.”
“So that is where we are,” he said. “They gaslight. They show partisanship. They smear everyone. It’s all to form a blizzard of lies, trying to blind us from the truth. And so we live during Orwellian times in which the powers that be wish to tell us that up is down and left is right.”
