Congress ignored Donald Trump’s calls to hold China-owned social app TikTok accountable back in 2020. Since then, it has continued to grow to become one of the most influential social networks in the world. And many fear all that data being given to TikTok is ending up in communist China’s hands.
Recently, Congress passed a bill that made an ultimatum to TikTok’s parent company. Instead of providing some form of compromise, the federal government is demanding ByteDance to sell the company.
If not, the app will be banned in the U.S. President Biden gladly signed this bill into law, since it expands the power of the federal government to bully foreign companies into doing its bidding. Well, it doesn’t look like ByteDance is at all afraid of someone like Joe Biden. And they are making a vow of their own.
ByteDance, the parent company of the social media app TikTok, has indicated that the company may prefer to shut down the app entirely rather than sell it to a US-based company…
TikTok CEO Zi Chew has stated that the company instead expects to win a legal challenge that would block the legislation from taking effect.
“Rest assured, we aren’t going anywhere,” Chew said in a TikTok video after the Senate passed the bill and Biden signed it into law. “The facts and the Constitution are on our side, and we expect to prevail again. [Source: The Post Millennial]
The owner of TikTok, ByteDance, has made it clear it will not sell TikTok to another company. It seems this social network is far too valuable to get rid of, at a time when social networks are the main way most people get their news and information.
In a message to its millions of users, TikTok’s CEO vowed it was not going anywhere. Although they would rather shut down than bend to the whims of Joe Biden, he vowed to sue the federal government over this potentially unconstitutional law.
Ironically, a Chinese business owner cited the Constitution saying it was “on our side.” It seems a foreign CEO has a better grasp of America’s laws and rights than the man sitting behind the Oval Office.
The CEO said TikTok will make their cases in court. Meanwhile, users will still have access to the app.
TikTok, like many other social networks, is used by people around the world to communicate with friends and family. On top of that, it has allowed millions to launch businesses and make money. Joe Biden, on the other hand, has made it harder for Americans to make money or build businesses, as inflation and an open border cripples the economy.
It’s a pretty bad day when a Chinese CEO has Americans’ interests in mind more than the president. But that’s every day so long as Biden is in office.
