Bald Eagle at a UFC Weigh-In at the White House — America Just Peaked

A live bald eagle soared over the National Mall and landed on stage at the UFC Freedom 250 weigh-in ceremony on Friday — held on the White House lawn as part of America's 250th birthday celebration — and if you didn't get chills watching it, check your pulse. President Trump has turned the People's House into the most electrifying venue in combat sports history, and the freedom bird showed up to co-sign the whole thing.

Barack Obama hosted poetry slams. Joe Biden hosted his own cognitive decline. Trump? He's got Alex Pereira tipping the scales at 251 pounds on the South Lawn while a bald eagle does a flyover. Pick your America.

The event, dubbed UFC Freedom 250, is the brainchild of UFC president Dana White and the Trump White House, tying the nation's semiquincentennial to the most unapologetically American sport on the planet. A judge even tried to block the event with a legal challenge, because of course someone did. The challenge failed. The fights are on. Democracy wins again.

And then came the eagle.

The ceremony kicked off with a real-life bald eagle launched from the back of the crowd, soaring over the weigh-in stage on the National Mall before landing in front of the fighters. The crowd lost its mind. The internet lost its mind. Somewhere, a PETA volunteer fainted.

Let's be honest — you could not script a more perfectly American moment if you had Hollywood's entire writing staff and a $300 million budget. A bald eagle. A UFC weigh-in. The White House. It's like the Founding Fathers drew this up on the back of the Declaration of Independence and said, "Save it for the 250th."

The left, predictably, is furious. They wanted the 250th birthday of America to be a somber reflection on our nation's sins, complete with land acknowledgments and a keynote from Ibram X. Kendi. Instead they got cage fighters, record-high fight bonuses, and a feature called "The Claw" as a centerpiece of the White House production. Whatever The Claw is, I already love it.

Peeira's 251-pound frame standing on a scale at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue is the kind of visual that makes you proud to be an American and makes Europeans deeply uncomfortable. Both are good things.

This is what happens when you elect a president who actually likes the country he runs. Obama would've released a statement about how bald eagles are impacted by climate change. Biden would've tried to shake the eagle's hand and called it "President Eagleton." Trump let it fly.

UFC Freedom 250 goes live from the White House lawn, and if you're not watching, you're doing the Fourth of July weekend wrong — even though it's June. That eagle didn't fly across the National Mall for you to watch Netflix.

Happy 250th, America. We're still the greatest country on Earth, and now we have the weigh-in footage to prove it.
